   Remember to have a succesful racing season your birds must be in top health..If not you will never be in the prizes..Be sure to clean your feeders and waters out each week with bleach and soap..This will keep the bacteria level and virus level down..

   Also be sure to have your young birds innocculated for pmv,pox,and paratyphoid..I have seen lofts with pmv,and it not only ruins your race season,but you will lose alot of birds..Pox is the lesser of the three evils,as it usually will cause your team to slow down,and not perform well but it will not kill them..You can have the most expensive birds in the world, but if they are not healthy,you will not win any prizes..

   Remember when feeding your bird for the races, be sure to feed light during the first part of the week,and then heavier towards the last part of the week..Feeding is one of the most important parts of racing.. Birds should be fed more protein type seeds for the short races, and more carbohydrate and fat seeds for the longer races.. A good flyer should be able to pick his birds up and be able to tell wether the bird is to thin, or to fat for any given race..

   It is always better to keep the flyers a little on the hungry side..That way they will trap better on the training tosses and during the races..I also believe in carboloading your birds the night before you ship the birds, by using peanuts,whole corn,and safflower..This works great in young birds or on the shorter races during old birds..

Breeding Techniques

1. Cross-Breeding - producing offspring by mating individuals from two distinct breeds or varieties of the same species..
   
2. Line-Breeding - is the breeding of two pigeons that are members of the same blood line, but not closely related enough to be inbred..   Generally, the two pigeons being mated have common ancestors..
3.  In-Breeding - Refers to breeding within the same family, usually done to preserve and enhance certain qualities.. Usually results in lowered vigour.. Inbreeding is a step used to achieve Hybrids..
